The HSE Community Games May National Festival took place in AIT last weekend with almost 4,000 children participating in a wide range of activities from debating to swimming, gymnastics to indoor soccer, art to rugby.

The HSE Community Games launched the May Festival with the help of Irish sporting hero Sonia O’Sullivan in the new arena at Athlone Institute of Technology on Tuesday.

The Mayo Community Games talent competition and choir singing will take place on Tuesday March 8 in the Parke Community Hall at 6pm.

Up to 3,000 competitors and their supporters are to descend on Athlone this weekend, as the first round of national HSE Community Games 2010 finals kick off at AIT.

The National Community Games finals will take place from Friday May 28 to Sunday May 30 in Athlone and Mayo Community Games will be strongly represented at the national finals with 131 young talented competitors.

Over the past four weeks the HSE Mayo Community Games have completed all of their indoor activities in different locations throughout the county. While many teams and individuals will qualify automatically from the county finals, many more will have to undergo a further challenge when they compete in the HSE Connaught Community Games finals in Sligo on Saturday April 10.

Galway hosted the Connaught finals of the HSE Community Games team events recently with all five counties represented.

The Kilkenny Community Games held a Family Open Day event in St Kieran’s College sports hall recently. The day was a big success with over 70 children attending and participating in numerous different sports and activities throughout the day.
